Ceasar’s Palace, MGM Grand, Bellagio or Mirage? It was so hard to decide where I should sleep. But after I had checked the average rates for hotel rooms, I immediately made some couchsurfing requests 😉
I was very lucky with my host. His name was Beau and he grew up in Vegas. His father came from Italy close to Naples and he had a restaurant and served actors like Robert de Niro.
Beau lived together with his little doggy in a nice flat and had a huge air mattress where I could sleep. He was supernice, relaxed and I really appreciated that he showed me the mountains around the area and guided me through a great mountain hike.
If you’re in Vegas, baby – you have to play!! I decided to invest not more than 250 $ for gambling. I had planned out a big “strategy”. But not everybody has! There was one girl sitting next to us. I was not sure if I
saw it right but she bet 5 dollar on red, 5 on black, 5 on even, 5 on odd, 5 on 1-18 and 5 on 19-36. You do not have to be a math’s genius to imagine that there is NO WAY to win.
Later I walked through all the stunning huge casinos and I was impressed how many people waste their money so easily. I saw thousands of slot machines, Poker-, Blackjack- and Roulette-Tables in all the different casinos. I learnt that the casinos do everything to keep the people playing. There is no window were you could see interesting things outside or see the sunset. No clock tells you how long you’ve already played. I believe this is also the only place in the U.S. where you do not have to go to a dedicated smoke area. As long as you play, they serve you drinks, whatever you want to drink – for free!
A little bit browbeaten by all the professional players I went to the first table with nothing but 250 $ and my big “strategy”. I had no idea where to change money, when to make the bets and how to change coins. Just as I wanted to start I looked surprised to the roulette table. Instead of 36 numbers and one “Zero” I found another number – a “00” double zero. What the hell was that? I walked to the next table – same wheel. Two zeros. After the 10th table with the double zero I asked a waitress if they had “European” Roulette Tables with only one zero. “Yes, of course!” she said. „Just in the little private room over there.“ I walked over and felt little bit underdressed, everything smelled very rich in this room, but she was right. The wheel had only one „zero“. The problem was that the minimum bet was 300$! Much faster than I came in I walked out again.
Finally I found a table with smaller bets but still the two green zeros. So I bet and bet and bet the whole night according to my big “strategy”. After all I finished the night two and a half hours later with 155 Dollars more than I started with.
The next day my couchsurfing host took me to the top of an adjacent mountain range called “Red Rock” with a phenomenal view over the entire area of Las Vegas. I thought about how successful I finished the last evening and wanted to try my luck again. This time I won 200 Dollars. At the end I left Vegas with more than 600 Dollars, spend three nights without charge there and had free drinks worth like 200$. I believe not many people make such a good deal in Vegas 😉
